Dr. LaToya “Chevelle” Waddell earned a B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Fashion Merchandise and Design, a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling and Counselor Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Her credentials include Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS), and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). Since 2004, she has worked in various community mental health settings, a non-profit counseling center, a private practice operated by a psychiatrist, at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university, as the clinical coordinator and lead clinician of the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness, as a practicum and internship coordinator, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, and as an adjunct faculty member at the College of William & Mary. She has experience working with people of all ages and with a variety of mental health, substance use, and life issues. She is also certified to complete premarital sessions.
Dr. Chevelle’s research interests are the engagement of the Black population in need of mental health services; trauma-informed cared, with a special interest in historical and generational/intergenerational trauma and medical trauma; the Health Stigma and Discrimination Framework in correlation to interdisciplinary care; clinical supervision, and innovative and application-based counselor education (ex. Use of music & lyrics).
She has a Make-Up Artistry certification, therefore paired with her fashion degree, she loves the inspiration of color; she is a Fast & Furious Fanatic; and a self-proclaimed Master Observer with an alter ego of The World’s Best Behavioral Analyst on any crime/FBI network series!
