Dr. LaToya “Chevelle” Waddell earned a B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Fashion Merchandise and Design, a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D in Rehabilitation Counseling and Counselor Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

She is also a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) and a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS). Since 2004, she has worked in various community mental health settings, a non-profit counseling center, a private practice operated by a psychiatrist, at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university as the clinical coordinator/lead clinician of the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness, and as a practicum and internship coordinator, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, and as an Adjunct Faculty at the College of William & Mary. She has experience working with people of all ages and with a variety of mental health, substance use, and life issues. She is also certified to complete premarital sessions.

Dr. Chevelle’s research interest is the engagement of the Black population in the need of mental health services. Secondly the training to mental health providers on affect ways to train and equip providers on better ways to help the Black population. Thirdly, understanding the interconnectedness of the mental health needs of patients with chronic needs and trauma.

She has a Make-Up Artistry certification, therefore paired with her fashion degree, she loves the inspiration of color; she is a Fast & Furious Fanatic; and a self-proclaimed Master Observer with an alter ego of The World’s Best Behavioral Analyst on any crime/FBI network series!
