NCASPPB Criteria C Program

The Master of Science in Clinical Counseling program within the department of Addictions & Rehabilitation Studies at East Carolina University is deemed a criteria C program by the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board. A unique aspect of the MS in Clinical Counseling program is that, unlike many other criteria C programs, all students who enroll and matriculate through the program engage in the criteria C aspect. There is no separate track or certificate option. Rather, the degree program is built to fully incorporate all aspects of the criteria C addictions counseling specialty. Thus, the MS in Clinical Counseling program provides students the opportunity to specialize in both clinical mental health counseling and addictions counseling, leading to dual license eligibility (LCMHC and LCAS) upon graduation. While all courses in the degree program inform the development of counselors-in-training, the program does have a specific 180-hour addictions specific course work, as well as integrated field-work requirements that align with the standards set forth by the criteria C requirements of the NCASPPB.
