Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)

CACREP was established in 1981 and sets the standards as well as accredits master’s degree programs in eight specific program areas. CACREP is an independent agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and provides a list of accredited counselor education programs offering master’s’ and doctoral degrees in counseling. CACREP’s website also lists contact information regarding accreditation and certification, in addition to counseling organizations and related professional associations.

The Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling, through East Carolina University, is a CACREP accredited program. The benefits of CACREP accreditation include:

  • Enhanced program evaluation
  • Continued programmatic quality improvement
  • Enriched student experiences through dedicated commitment to the highest academic standards
  • Reinforced current and future licensure and employment standards for rehabilitation counselors

The standards set forth by CACREP can be found on their web site.
